28/11/2019 – Guinness PRO14 Communications – 1872 Cup ticket sales surpass 10,000

This year’s 1872 Cup derby against Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield is building up to be one of the biggest yet, with ticket sales having already surpassed the 10,000 mark.

This is the most tickets ever sold at this stage, and with only a month to go until the annual festive fixture that takes place on Saturday 28 December at 3pm, supporters from both sides of the rivalry are urged to continue to get behind their respective clubs in record numbers.

Richard Cockerill’s side are the current holders of the historic trophy, having beaten the Warriors in both of last year’s festive derbies.

With Edinburgh Rugby now looking to lift the trophy for the third consecutive season, supporters can look forward to another epic rugby spectacle as the annual fixture fast approaches.

On the fixture’s record sales to date, Edinburgh Rugby’s Managing Director Douglas Struth, said:

“The 1872 Cup is already one of the biggest games of the season for both of the clubs and their respective fans, coaches and players. It is great that this match is now building up to be one of the biggest 1872 Cup fixtures yet.

“As well as the vital Guinness PRO14 points and pride that is at stake, with no Autumn Tests this year, this will be the first chance for fans at BT Murrayfield to watch Scotland’s top international rugby stars go head-to-head since the Rugby World Cup.

“We are all set for a unique big match atmosphere, as well as a fantastic value day out for all the family between Christmas and New Year.”
