Juan Ignacio Brex of Benetton Rugby faced a Disciplinary Hearing today, Monday, December 30 via Videoconference and has been banned for three weeks.
Brex (No 13) was shown a red card for an incident that occurred in the 18th minute of the Guinness PRO14 Round 9 fixture with Zebre Rugby Club on Saturday, December 28 at the Stadio Monigo, Treviso.
The referee, Andrea Piardi, deemed the player to have committed an act of foul play against an opponent, Tommaso Boni (No 12) of Zebre Rugby Club.
The Player had been shown a red card for a contravention of Law 9.18: A player must not lift an opponent off the ground and drop or drive that player so that their head and/or upper body make contact with the ground.
The Player accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted the issue of the red card. Pamela Woodman, the Judicial Officer overseeing the hearing, determined that the act warranted a low-end entry point of six weeks.
The Player’s previous disciplinary record, his acceptance of the red card and apology to his opponent were all taken into account and mitigation of 50 per cent was applied.
The Player has been banned for a period of three weeks and will be free to play from midnight on January 19, 2020.
The Player was reminded of his right to appeal.
