The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has today announced the 2019-2020 Tyrrells Premier 15s final will be held at Kingsholm, the home of Gloucester Rugby, on Sunday 31 May 2020.
The top four teams in the competition will progress to semi-final play-offs, played at the home ground of the top two teams on the weekend of 9/10 May with the finalists competing for the title three weeks later on the 31 May (kick-off 3pm).
In the first two seasons, Saracens and Harlequins reached the final with the Allianz Park outfit coming out on top on both occasions.
After nine rounds, the two London clubs are leading the way once more, Saracens moved to the summit after coming from 24 points down to beat Harlequins 33-27 at the weekend.
2018/19 semi-finalists Loughborough Lightning currently sit third while Gloucester-Hartpury are currently riding high in fourth.
Kingsholm has hosted a number of international matches, including four pool games at the 2015 Rugby World Cup and a record Tyrrells Premier 15s final attendance is the target in 2020.
RFU Head of Women’s Performance, Nicky Ponsford said: “The standard and popularity of the Tyrrells Premier 15s continues to grow and we’re delighted to take the final to Gloucester, a real rugby hotbed.
“Kingsholm is an excellent venue which was used for the Rugby World Cup in 2015 and we know it’ll be a great occasion.
“As we’ve seen in the previous two seasons, the final will be a real celebration of rugby as another exciting season in the top-flight draws to a close.”
Gloucester Rugby’s CEO Lance Bradley said: “It’s terrific news. The women’s game has been growing in profile and popularity in recent years, not just at international level but also the club game and we’re honoured to play our part in that by staging the final.
“Gloucester-Hartpury are a relatively new side but are acquitting themselves very well in the top flight, pushing hard for the play-offs and it would be perfect for them to be involved.
“We’re very keen to host games such as these at Kingsholm, we’re also looking forward to England U20s playing their Welsh counterparts here in March, so to have the final here is very exciting and we hope to have a big crowd on the day.”
Tyrrells' Marketing Manager Sarah Lawson, said: "We continue to be incredibly proud to sponsor the elite women’s rugby competition, Tyrrells Premier 15s. The partnership between Tyrrells and the RFU is a union of two much loved and iconic English brands, working together to inspire more women to take part in rugby. We're looking forward to seeing who takes home the trophy at the final in May next year."
Ticketing details will be announced in due course.
