07/12/2019 – RFU – Dubai Sevens: England Women finish ninth after extra-time win

England women sevens capped off their Dubai Sevens campaign in style with a 26-21 victory over Ireland in extra-time.

The result means Charlie Hayter’s side finish ninth overall.

Heather Fisher opened the scoring while Amy Wilson Hardy crossed for her first try of the tournament – Hannah Tyrrell ensured there was a one score difference at the break.

The impressive Deborah Fleming crossed before efforts from Tyrrell and Louise Galvin levelled.

However, England had the final say, Fleming sealed a dramatic win in the 17th minute to ensure England ended the weekend on a high.
“It was great to see some of the stuff we’ve been working on at the Lensbury coming out on the pitch,” Hayter said.
“We’re really pleased with some of the training and play at the Dubai Sevens.
“It’s a good one for us to keep learning and it was great to see our learnings throughout the weekend.
“I thought we played better in each game we played so it’s an exciting one for us to lead into next week in Cape Town to see if we can take on the lessons we’ve been working on in the last block and from this weekend into next weekend.”
